A: In 1894 the Helvetia Milk Condensing Company, in Highland, Ill, began packaging condensed milk in 'baby-sized" cans. They nicknamed the product "pet" evaporated cream. The PET brand was so popular - especially in the South - that when Helvetia got into the fresh dairy business in 1929, they changed their name to The PET Dairy Products Company. Q: At what temperature should I set my refrigerator to keep my PET milk as fresh as possible?

A: It's best to keep the temperature in your refrigerator between 33° to 38° Fahrenheit to keep your milk fresh. When the temperature of milk increases above 38° the product life begins to decrease. We recommend keeping a thermometer in your fridge, so you know you're maintaining the best temperature for your dairy products.

Q: What else can I do to keep my PET milk
tasting fresh?

A: Everyone loves the farm-fresh flavor of PET milk. And to make that fresh flavor last there are a couple of steps you can take. First, minimize the time your PET milk is unrefrigerated - your milk should be the last thing you put in your grocery cart and the first thing you put in your fridge when you get home. Second, place your PET milk jug as close to the rear of your refrigerator as possible to keep it at the coldest temperature.
